Yamunotri is one of the four Dham of Chardham yatra in Uttarakhand. It is famous because of the source of holy Yamuna river. Every pilgrim’s visits sacred site of Yamunotri to fulfill their wish.
Yamunotri temple is located in the western region of Garhwal Himalayas about a height of 3,291 meters to Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and has a black marble idol of the goddess.Maharani Gularia of Jaipur created the temple in the nineteenth century. It was destroyed twice in the current century and reconstructed again.
The temple opens on Akshaya Tritiya (May) and closes on Yama Dwitiya (the second day following Diwali, November) to the winter. A minimal ahead is the actual source of river Yamuna. There are two hot springs present at Yamunotri. It provides relief to travelers from the tired hiking at a height of 3292 meters. The first hot string is Surya Kund. It has boiling hot water. Another one is Gauri Kund has tepid water which is suitable for bathing. The spring water is hot enough to cook rice and potatoes. The rituals duties as supervision of pujas, making and distribution of prasad are responsibilities of Uniyal Family of pujaris. Rice and potatoes cooked in hot spring are served as prasad.
